Friends and family,
When Coquina Community Church held her first official worship service on March 12, 2006, we had a simple plan: Enjoy and embody the gospel for the glory of God and the good of St. Augustine.
By every measure, the Lord has blessed and honored that mission. We've watched unbelievers come to faith and have conducted dozens of baptisms. We've seen God work on our members' hearts and help form them into stronger, more missional, and more productive Christians. We've sent long-term missionaries to Wales and to England. We've helped fund church plants in Savannah, Ga.; Columbia, S.C; and Manchester, United Kingdom. We've hosted an annual Carols by Candlelight on Christmas Eve in the downtown plaza of St. Augustine. We've held more than 800 Sunday worship services in which the word of God has been proclaimed in sermons, music, and prayer.
And now, more than sixteen years since that first Sunday service, we believe God has chosen to bring this chapter of the story of his church in St. Augustine to a close. The announcement is bittersweet. We're saddened to see an end to this particular expression of gospel community, but excited for the chance to bless others by sending our treasure and our people into the world. Already we've disbursed thousands of dollars to excellent ministries and missionaries, and our members have begun to settle into and serve other churches. The work of the gospel marches on.
As for Coquina, we can say honestly she fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith. Those of us fortunate enough to have called her our church home will never forget your prayers for, support of, and service to this body.
